Crow Wing Jail Custody Facts
The current building is a direct-supervision adult jail operated by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office. Direct supervision places staff within housing areas rather than relying only on remote observation. The jail operates at all hours, while published lobby service is limited to weekday business hours.
The Sheriff reported 2,316 bookings in 2025 and 2,579 in 2024. Those are booking episodes, not unique people and not release counts. The distinction matters because one person can have more than one booking, and a booking does not state the departure outcome.

Crow Wing Jail Release Entrance
The county's Reporting to Jail instructions identify the north door as “Inmate Release and Return” and describe north-side parking near the railroad tracks for people reporting. This is useful local wayfinding, but it does not say every person exits there or authorize anyone to wait on site.
Confirm pickup details with the 24-hour jail line before travel. Court timing, property handling, another hold, transport, and staff processing can affect when a person actually leaves. A bond payment or release order begins a process; neither by itself proves that the jail has cleared every condition.

Crow Wing Jail ICE Releases
Crow Wing County Jail also serves as an official ICE detention site. ICE inspected the operation in 2026, and the county entered a 287(g) task-force agreement in 2025. This local feature makes the difference between “released from county custody” and “released to ICE” especially important.

Crow Wing Jail Release History
The present Crow Wing County Jail opened in 2007. The Sheriff's history also describes a 1917 jail with 20 cells and a sheriff's residence. That older building became the county historical museum in 1982 after sheriff operations moved in 1979.

Crow Wing Jail Release Charges
Crow Wing County lists a $25 booking fee and a $25-per-day Pay-for-Stay charge for sentenced county inmates, billed upon release. Statutory and category exceptions apply to the booking fee, including identified contract, temporary, and juvenile situations. A person whose charges were all dismissed or who was acquitted may seek reimbursement under the county's stated conditions with court proof and no prior booking-fee debt.
These charges do not serve as a public release confirmation. A bill can follow a release, but the release record remains the source for the departure date, time, basis, and receiving agency. The county's Work Release program has separate eligibility rules and can include a $40 drug test and a $10 tuberculosis test when applicable. Those program charges are not general prerequisites for everyone leaving Crow Wing County Jail.
A narrow work-release policy also says unpaid work-release or Pay-for-Stay sums at release may affect good time until payment or exhaustion of good time. That statement belongs only to the cited program framework. It should not be expanded into a universal Minnesota jail rule or used to calculate a date without the jail's own sentence record.
